Winter in Jasper, Arkansas
Winter in the Ozark Mountains can be just as stunning as any other season. During Winter, the landscapes of the Ozarks can look vastly different than they usually do. For starters, without the leaves on the trees, a lot more of the mountain terrain and bluff lines are visible. This means you can see even more scenic views while out hiking on the trails and driving through the mountains. Many of the seasonal creeks and waterfalls located on the trails will be flowing during the Winter months as well. And if you are lucky enough to time your trip just right, you may even get to see what the small town of Jasper, Arkansas looks like under a blanket of snow. Nothing beats eating a hot meal in Jasper after a frosty mountain hike!
Winter also brings out the beautiful teal colors of the Little Buffalo River, which flows right through the center of town. The teal color of the water is a result of limestone in the rocks of the riverbed. The river breaks down the limestone into tiny crystals, which then reflect light back as a beautiful teal color.
Fishing is also another popular activity in the Ozarks during the Winter months. Winter makes an ideal time to fish because the fish are more active in the colder water. One of the most popular spots around Jasper is at Bradly Park, which sits right on the Little Buffalo River. The park also showcases some beautiful bluffs you can admire while you are waiting for the fish to bite!
