Planning to see the peak Fall colors in the Ozarks? We can help! The Smoky Mountains Region recently released their annual Fall Foliage Prediction Map for the United States. They are predicting the peak time to see Fall leaves in the Ozarks to be around October 31st. This date falls a few weeks later than their prediction last year. However, it aligns closer with the time most locals recommend, which is the 1st week of November. Anyone planning a visit to Jasper between October 31st - November 7th will likely see the peak foliage colors in the Ozarks.
If you are looking for some great places to hike and sight see, check out our list of 10 Places to Visit within 5 Minutes of Jasper. (Complete with Google Maps links to each location for easy directions!) The local hiking spot we recommend every year is Round Top Mountain Trail. It is located about 2 miles south of Jasper on HWY 7, which makes it a great place to visit before or after you eat and shop. The trail features several unique landmarks and beautiful scenic overlooks. Round Top Mountain Trail is open everyday from dawn until dusk, and has a nice parking area right next to the trailhead.
Located just 1 mile further south on HWY 7 is Scenic Point, another “must see” location during the Fall. Scenic Point features a spectacular wide-open view of the Ozark Mountains. It also features a Lookout Tower that you can walk up and get above the treeline. On a clear day, you can see a distance of over 40 miles away.
During your Fall visit, be sure to stop by Yeager’s Junction Quik Stop and pick up “Jasper”, the Official Mascot of the Buffalo National River! “Jasper” is an extra soft American Buffalo plush and he’s one of the many items also available in our new JasperArkansas.com Gift Shop.
